How much does hardwood floor installation cost in NJ?

In 2026, hardwood installation labor with IAC Home Improvement starts at $4 per square foot for straight-lay solid or engineered hardwood, and herringbone or chevron patterns start at $12 per square foot in labor. What moves the price up or down

FAQ

Hardwood Installation Questions

What's the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?
Solid hardwood is one piece of real wood (3/4" thick) and can be refinished many times over decades. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer over plywood, more dimensionally stable, great for basements and over concrete.
How long does installation take?
For an average 800 sq ft area, installation typically takes 3-5 days including subfloor prep and acclimation. Wide-plank or specialty floors may take a bit longer.
Can I install hardwood in a kitchen or bathroom?
Engineered hardwood works in kitchens but we recommend tile or LVP for bathrooms due to moisture. We'll advise based on your specific space.
Do I need to acclimate the wood before install?
Yes! We deliver materials 5-7 days before installation to acclimate to your home's humidity. This prevents future gapping or buckling.
What's the warranty?
1 year workmanship warranty from us. Materials carry manufacturer warranties of 25-50 years for solid hardwood, 15-25 years for engineered.
